Mileage Allowances 2008/09 for Cars, Vans, Motorcycle and Bicycles

 
Where an employee provides their own personal transportation.
The employee can be reimbursed at any level for the use of their own transport, however the amounts may not exceed those shown below without resulting in a tax charge.
Flat Rate First 10,000 Miles Miles over 10,000
Car / Van 40p 25p
Motorcycle 24p 24p
Bicycle 20p 20p
In situations where the level of reimbursement is greater than the above amounts, the employee will be required to pay both income Tax and NICs on the total monies received from the employer. They are also able to make a claim relief where they are paid less than the above rates..
Where an employee provides transportation to colleagues they are able to claim up to 5p per mile per colleague provided the journey is business related and reasonable.


Fuel-Only Mileage Rates
Revenue and Customs permit the following rates to be used for an employee for private mileage reimbursement or employer reimbursement of business mileage are:

Up to 1400cc 11p 11p 7p
1401cc - 2000cc 13p 11p 8p
Over 2000cc 19p 14p 11p
